A man, who last year allegedly ran a red light and collided with several cars, could be facing Arizona wrongful death charges. James Lee Hyfield was convicted last week of manslaughter in the deaths of a couple and the woman’s young child.

According to reports, Hyfield ran his truck through a red light, clipped one car, and then collided into another car, killing its occupants—a couple and the woman’s 2-year-old son. The Arizona auto accident was so severe that the brain stems of the man and woman in the car were severed.

Authorities believe Hyfield was intoxicated at the time of the Arizona car crash, but he wasn’t caught until 15 hours after the accident. Additionally, Hyfield lost his license in 1994 and has prior convictions for misdemeanor DUI, forgery, burglary and theft, according to Arizona Daily Star.

A family has filed a lawsuit after five family members were killed by a drunk driver. According the wrongful death lawsuit, Dana Papst was returning from a business trip when U.S. Airways allegedly served him alcohol even though he seemed intoxicated. Once the plane landed, Papst went to a gas station and purchased a six-pack of beer and then proceeded to drive five miles in the wrong direction before he collided with a van.

All the passengers in the van, which included a mother and father and their three daughters, were all killed. Only one daughter survived the auto accident. Papst died the day after the accident.

As a result, relatives of the family killed in the accident have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against U.S. Airways, Giant Industries (which owns the gas station where Papst purchased the beer), the Santa Fe Opera (which employed Papst and sent him on the business trip), and Papst’s estate.
